One of the less obvious benefits of this year's edition of the Geneva Motor Show sees the industry bringing coach building back under the spotlights. Those of you who want to look further than the old school Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Spyder can now turn to the new-age style thanks to British aftermarket developer Kahn.
The company has long evolved past its otherwise respectable Range Rover tuning roots, reinventing an Aston Martin DB9. Dubbed Vengeance, the machine still shows its origins, but sports the kind of fresh appearance that, visually speaking, allows it to sit up there with the new DB11.
Speaking of which, Aston Martin has officially given the coach-built effort its blessing. Here's Gaydon's purchasing director, Gary Arches, being supportive: "I am delighted to see Kahn Design at the Geneva Motor Show. There is a long and rich history of specialist coach-built Aston Martins, and we wish Kahn every success with the Vengeance."
The inspiration for the project, which Kahn teased a while ago, comes from the Aston Martins of the 80s and the 90s, further setting the result apart from the new offerings in the Aston Martin collection.
As with the Disco Volante Spyder mentioned above, this double British effort doesn't let us know its financial side. The price of the conversion is only for the ears of the potential clientele.
Kahn is betting on the Vengeance being the kind of investment that pays out in the long term: "With the price of hand built sports cars rising, the Vengeance is likely to prove a sound investment, and is expected to represent extremely good value for a limited edition coach built car."
With things moving at an amazing pace these days, we expect to see one out there pretty soon. Don't expect too many hooning YouTube videos, though.
