Kahn Design CEO Selling 'F1' License Plate for $17 Million [Updated]

Afzal Kahn is known in the British auto industry for being the owner of A Kahn Design "automotive fashion house." But he became really famous only six years ago, when he spent £440,000 ($740,000) to buy the “F1” license plate, the one registered in the UK more than a century ago. Well, now he is selling it for £10 million ($17 million) online.

What financial crises, what hunger, what global warming? Those things are not for this people, definitely not for the ones who live in the world of rich. Dear folks, it’s time to get crazy. Do you remember the guy that turned down a $9,3 million (EUR 6,8 million) offer last year? Well, it’s the same guy again, only far more eccentric.

Back then he told Daily Mail reporters that it’s his favorite plate and that he has no intention what so ever to sell it. Say what? Let us rewind here for a second. So, there is a guy buying a rectangular plate for almost half a million pounds and then there is another guy that would pay almost 10 million pounds sterling to buy it from him. Sounds a bit out-of-this-world, right?

Anyway, even though he said he won’t ever sell it, it turns out it’s currently for sale online and anybody can get it... as long as they have £10 million ($17 million) to spare. You might find it amusing to know that the plate was on a Volvo S80 sedan back in 2008, when the plate was owned by the chairman of the Essex County Council.

Update: We spoke to Kahn on the matter and, as it turns out, the F1 plate is not for sale.
