Just 100 VW Beetle GSR Models Available in UK

When VW pulled the covers off its black and yellow Beetle GSR at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show earlier this year, the company said it was going to be a future collector's car. To ensure that happens, production would be limited to just 3,500 units to be sold worldwide.

As one of the biggest car markets in Europe, Britain is getting its fair share of cars, as a full hundred units will be delivered there late this year. They are already available for order nationwide, costing from £24,900 (OTR RRP) for the six-speed manual versions or £26400 for models equip with a DSG gearbox.

The new GSR is a modern interpretation of a classic 1970s car which you can see in some of the photos below. The name stands for Gelb Schwarzer Renner ("Yellow Black Racer"), but it's more of a poser than a full-on racer.

Still, we wouldn't dare to call it slow. The original GSR had a small flat-four engine producing only 50 hp, but this 2014 model has a Golf GTI-like 2.0-liter TSI turbo with 210 PS and 280 Nm of toque.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
