Johnson Takes NASCAR Pole at Dover

Jimmie Johnson of Hendrick Motorsports team achieved his second pole at Dover International Speedway on Friday. The No. 48 Chevrolet managed to beat Juan Pablo Montoya for the first spot on the grid by only 0.096s.

Johnson recorded a lap time of 22.878 seconds with an average speed of 157.3 mph. This Sunday's AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway marks the second race in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Thinking about the race strategy for Sunday’s race, a very excited Jimmie Johnson revealed: "There's so much time to be gained on pit road, and the fact that you only have to go a few short feet to cross that camera line makes all the difference in the world.”

Montoya had a difficult run because he was the first to tackle the Dover Speedway, when track conditions aren’t ideal. “The plan was to run two laps, being the first guy out you never know. But when I finished the first lap I knew there was no way I was going to get more out of the car. I didn't have anything else. Jimmie beat me through (Turns) 1 and 2," declared the Colombian.

Third place on the grid was secured by Ryan Newman in a Chevy, while last year’s winner, Greg Biffle will share the second row in his Ford. On the third row, David Reutimann managed fifth in his Toyota and Kasey Kahne placed sixth behind the wheel of his Dodge Callenger.

Mark Martin, the points leader in the Chase for the Sprint Cup qualified only 14th , while Carl Edwards of the Roush Fenway team managed a disappointing 30th spot. So, for Mark Martin, the more notable achievement is the fact he will record his 750th Cup start here at Dover on Sunday.
