To pull of the following gig, Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling asked for the help of the United States Air Force. It's because the rocket-powered aircraft featured here has been sitting in a deposit for over 35 years. John Travolta might be an A-lister in Hollywood, but this beast is holding the official world record for the highest speed ever reached by a manned, powered aircraft. In other words, it's safe to say we’re dealing with not one, but two stars in this clip.
Breitling is on a roller coaster with this year’s Baselworld being a great success for the company. But one international luxury timepiece fair won’t stop the renown chronometer watches maker from innovating.

They haven’t released a lot of details on their latest project, but we did stumble upon a nice little making-of video with the seasoned pilot and aviation aficionado depicting alongside the North American X-15.

The exceptional aircraft was loaned by the Air Force Flight Test Museum from its base at Edwards, California. Breitling claims the photos for this new commercial co-starring Travolta and the speed monster were shot in California, on the runway of the famous Mojave Air and Space Port. The From Paris with Love actor has been working with the Swiss company for over ten years time, so it’s no surprise they are planning something fresh for this year.

A game changer

Before you click the play button, we’d like to add a detail concerning the experimental aircraft. Back in the 1960s, the X-15 reached the edge of outer space and returned with valuable data. Scientists used that info in aircraft and spacecraft design, so in a way we’re looking at a game changer brought back to life. How cool is that, right?
