The scaphoid is one of the carpal or wrist bones and its fracture is a rather common type of injury in the sports world. The facture usually occurs when a person hits the ground with the back of the hand, trying to break the harder fall. Scaphoid fractures are also a common injury among bicycle and motorbike riders, yet have been reported in multiple other scenarios.

McGuinness can often be seen on dirt bikes as a constant part of his training, and off-road and trail riding are one of his favorite ways to stay fit. During the winter, Mr. Pint prefers to roam the hills and moors of his native Lancashire, rather than use the more traditional ways to train.

The severity of his injury was not known at the time of writing, but so far online sources say that his 2-14 endurance season will not be affected. However, as the first round of the championship is scheduled for 26-27 April and is the grueling 24-hour Bol D’Or at Magny-Cours in France, we can only hope that his fracture can be treated without surgery. Otherwise, with only 5 weeks left for recovery, he may not be at his best in the early stages of the 2014 Endurance World series.

Even more, the Isle of Man TT is also around the corner, with the crazy Manx action to take place May 24- June 6.
