Former singer, songwriter and Beatles member John Lennon had a pretty impressive collection of cars, including his famous psychedelic Rolls-Royce or the 1972 Chrysler Town & Country wagon.
But the English artist didn’t start his driving “career” in a British or American car. As soon as the got his license, at the age of 25, Lennon jumped right into a 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2. It’s good to be the King John Lennon, huh?
Painted Azzuro Blue and sporting a blue interior as well, the sportscar pictured above is just one of only 500 330GT 2+2 built and was acquired by Lennon for £6,500 about 48 years ago. Now estimated between £180,000 and £220,000, the Ferrari will be auctioned by Bonhams at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12.
John Lennon drove the car for almost three years, covering more than 20,000 miles in it. The current owner bought it from the Modena Ferrari dealership in the late 1980s and restored it to its original specification.
Among other cars on offer at Goodwood are 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 Formula 1 car, a 1955 Maserati 300S Sports-Racing Spider (estimate £3.5 million - £4.5 million), a 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 “Le Mans” Tourer (estimate £1.4 million - £1.8 million), and a 1966 Ferrari 500 Superfast (estimate £800,000 - £1 million).
