Joe Biden Flies Private For Inauguration After Being Denied Military Plane

As the United States of America is preparing to enter into a new administration, another surprising breach of tradition and, some say, protocol has been recorded: the President-Elect had to fly private for the Inauguration.

Joe Biden, along with the entire First Family, had to fly into Washington D.C. one day before the Inauguration, as is tradition. However, instead of arriving at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on one of the military planes usually deployed for this occasion, on January 19, the Bidens touched down in a chartered private jet.

You can see a video of the arrival at the bottom of the page.

CNN explains why this is a strange, unprecedented occurrence. Reports claim that, as a final snub before he ends his four-year run as POTUS, Donald Trump “denied” Joe Biden the courtesy of an Air Force jet with all the security detail it comes with. Biden had to fly into the capital still shook by the January 6 events in an aircraft that was not fit for the task, security-wise.

By contrast, former President Barack Obama sent an Air Force plane for the Trumps to New York in January 2017, ahead of the Inauguration.

Rumors and controversy aside, this is the last time Biden flies private for at least four years. As sworn POTUS, he will be making all business trips onboard the Air Force One, the most secure aircraft in the world and a genuine flying fortress.

In addition to features like a conference room, Oval Office, Presidential bedroom and bathroom, massive galley, and medical room with on-board doctor, Air Force One has armored windows, encryption and scrambling devices, some 80+ phones for both classified and unclassified use, and much more stuff us mortal folks can’t be made privy to.
