Joddie Kidd Seems Likely for New Top Gear Format with Guy Martin and Philip Glenister

Will Jeremy Clarkson come back? Will James May and Richard Hammond host the show themselves? Will the three start a new gig? There have been several rumors about the future of Top Gear. Like it or not, it appears BBC is planning something else for the acclaimed auto show. Instead of a forgiven Jeremy Clarkson it will most likely include a former fashion model who is currently hosting a classic car series.

Apparently, the bosses at the British Broadcasting Corporation are in advanced talks with future presenters, the Sunday Express reported. If the deal is sealed, we’ll be watching a new type of distribution that will include two men and one woman.

This alone sets new standards, opens the doors for new audience that could as well be formed from female petrolheads. A female host who was also a former fashion model will bring that missing part to a great show.

Meet the gang

Life on Mars actor Philip Glenister, Channel 4 presenter Guy Martin and Classic Car Show’s Jodie Kidd are reportedly replacing the gang we watched for 13 years. But let us meet them first.

Glenister, 52, is a veteran actor best known for his role as DCI Gene Hunt on the British television series Life on Mars and its sequel Ashes to Ashes.

Martin, 33, is a motorcycle racer, lorry mechanic, and occasional TV presenter. Apparently his passion for engineering, motor vehicles, and speed recommend him for the job. Jodie Kidd, 36, fills the female part of the new Top Gear team.

Other than the fact she did all sorts of mainstream shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Masterchef, Kidd could also be considered fit for the job since she too has a soft spot for the automotive world.

In fact, she is one of the veteran drivers to participate in the Gumball 3000 rally. Kidd and Top Gear had met before, 12 years ago, when she completed the fastest Celebrity Lap in the Suzuki Liana on the car show Series 2, Episode 8.

Andy Wilman apparently broke the news

There’s a lot of these people that currently remains unsaid, but since it’s only a rumor we’re not going to detail their careers. There is something different that stood out to be honest about this news.

According to the source, it was the former Top Gear producer Andy Wilman who overheard describing the new line-up while having lunch with Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay in Sussex. You should take this with a grain of salt. Still, we have at least until next spring to figure it out since that’s the earliest the show could be back on TV.
