Jimmie Johnson Helps Chevrolet Promote the 2021 Tahoe SUV

Chevy says that “a legendary life begins with a legendary vehicle,” and the vehicle in question is the all-new Tahoe. The Golden Bowtie has even employed a little help from Jimmie Johnson to push the new SUV into the market. Still, for some reason or another, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion doesn’t talk about the product he promotes in this ad.

From taking a jog to running errands and taking the kiddo to karting practice, Johnson and Chevrolet don’t fail to highlight the versatility of the Tahoe. Now based on the T1XX platform, the full-size SUV also happens to be more comfortable and nicer to drive than its predecessor, thanks to a multi-link rear axle with coil springs instead of a live axle and leaf springs.

The fifth generation has also grown in size over the previous Tahoe, now boasting 11 more cubic feet (311 liters) of cargo space behind the third row and 10 more inches (254 mm) of third-row legroom. Still boxy but curvier as well, the family-sized sport utility vehicle offers three powertrain options for the 2021 model year.

For $49,000 before destination charge and options, you can expect the LS trim level with rear-wheel drive and the 5.3-liter V8 paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Customers who want a little more suck-squeeze-bang-blow can upgrade to a 6.2-liter V8 that tops 420 horsepower (414 PS), and the third option comes in the guise of a Duramax inline-six turbo diesel.

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe featured in the ad with Jimmy Johnson behind the wheel is the range-topping High Country trim, which comes exclusively with the 6.2 gasser at more than $70k. The fine print at the beginning of the video also highlights “optional equipment shown throughout,” so yeah, you're looking at more than $75,000 for this particular configuration.

The rear-seat media system, for example, is bundled with the $3,355 Technology Package that includes Adaptive Cruise Control and trailering goodies like an integrated trailer brake controller. As for the most expensive option offered, that would be the High Country Deluxe Package at $5,105.
