Jimmie and Chandra Johnson Expecting First Child

One of our colleagues here at autoevolution says in his piece our website is about cars, bikes and almost anything with an engine, but the news that follows does not exactly fall into any of the categories mentioned.

Yet, the fact that the man named by the Associated Press "Male Athlete Of The Year 2009” and the Top Sprint Cup Driver of the decade, in the view of the North American media, is expecting, together with his wife, their first child is worth at least a thought.

Jimmie and Chandra Johnson, married since 2004 will become parents sometimes in July, according to a spokesperson for the driver talking to NASCAR. No other details have been offered and Johnson did not make any comments on the news.

Be it as it may, we think congratulations are in order. After all, what better way to end (and start) a decade of successes, than with the arrival of a child. Johnson's amazing 4 consecutive Sprint Cup Series wins, the fact that he was the first race driver to get the aforementioned "Male Athlete Of The Year 2009” award in Associated Press' 78 years of existence or the records broken by him during the 2009 season now seem to fade away in front of this important event in his life.

The NASCAR child-pool, if we can call it that, will get even richer this year, as other two drivers are expecting their first juniors this year. Elliot Sadler and his wife Angie will become parents in February, while Carl Edwards and his wife, Katherine will follow in March.
