A lot of guys use the term “canyon carving” as a fancy synonym for the “twisties”. Basically, it refers to riding hard on twisty roads, with doing more than several mph more than it’s safe for one’s license every now and then. Some are trying to push their own limits, while some are trying to prove their worthiness to their peers, while other are in this for the money in not-so-legal races.
Whether this type of riding is questionable or not is definitely outside the purpose of this article. However, if you’re in for some real canyon carving, the video below will show you how it’s done… through a proper canyon.

Drought affecting Lake Powell?

The video is allegedly shot on Lake Powell, a large reservoir between Utah and Arizona, just north of the Grand Canyon National Park area. Truth be told, this might be true, as a quick online search returned photos which are quite consistent with what we can see in the video. Facebook users claim that the drought the area could have caused the water level to drop enough to provide daring jet-ski riders with such a scenic track.

Now, the lenses of action cameras are known to induce a certain degree of distortion to the recorded image, so this is why at times this ride may seem much crazier that it really is. Plus, the reflection of the stone walls in the water makes the gap between them be much narrower, adding to the crazy feeling of riding the jet-ski fast through these canyons.

Even though this looks much crazier than riding a motorcycle fast on twisty roads, the latter is indeed more dangerous. That is, incoming traffic and the high risks which come with riding off the road make motorcycling still a more dangerous business than falling from a boat, and swimming back to safety aided by the life jacket.

Oh, and I believe I am not the only one who felt this ride is not unlike the pod race in Star Wars...
