In case karting seems too mainstream for you, but you still like racing on little wheels, we have something that might keep your boat afloat. Meet the jet-powered Go-Kart, a contraption like you’ve never seen before.
Once this thing lights up, the extreme sensations are guaranteed and it's mainly thanks to the fact that what we have here appears to be a rolling gate towards the inferno.

The project comes from one of our favorite DIY builders, Colin Furze. This is the guy who came up with stuff such as the ice-wheeled bicycle and the jet-engined barbeque. Of course, building a jet-powered bicycle has taught him quite some lessons.

For one thing, he decided to work on a start system that would allow him to wake the jet engine up while inside the kart - starting the jet-powered bike was a two-man job.

The chassis of the donor kart was stretched by about 1.5 meters, with the limit being imposed by the van Colin uses to take this piece of machinery to the track. In case you’re wondering, the center of gravity (horizontal axis), sits right in the middle of the Kart.

This isn’t the propane-fueled jet engine that offers maximum potential. Instead, Colin built the system so that it can run on both gas or petrol. Being able to fill the machine up yourself is an important asset when you actually want to enjoy it.

The drawbacks

Right now, you might be wondering why such creations don’t show up more often. Well, there’s more than one reason for that. First of all, mainly due to the fuel, the performance isn’t all that hot. For now, the jet-powered go-kart can hit over 60 MPH (100 KM/H), but with a longer runway that number will increase.

Then there’s the sheer thirst of the animal. To quote the DIY man, this thing “will use a 5-gallon bucket to travel around half a mile.”

Its fuel tank? A reworked fire extinguisher. In fact, this is what makes Colin’s creations so special. The man comes up with affordable projects that one can handle himself and on a relatively tight budget. He explains he’s always been the practical kind, but his skills come mostly from Internet tutorials. The one decade of work is on the house.
