Jeremy Mayfield, Sued by His Former Attorneys

Suspended by NASCAR after failing a random drug test back in May, during which he tested positive for meth, Jeremy Mayfield is now faced with a strange web of law suits, which will make his next few months very busy ones.

As any driver in his position would do, Mayfield sued NASCAR over his suspension and hired firm James, McElroy and Diehl for the job.

The two sides worked together from May to October, when Mayfield replaced the firm with attorney Mark Geragos. Now, the law firm sued the NASCAR driver for $371,973.66, plus attorney fees, late charges and interest since October 22...

James, McElroy and Diehl are accusing the NASCAR driver of intentionally misleading them into believing they will get paid for their services. The law firm claim Mayfield used to say "that payments were 'on the way,' or 'being delivered today'," and when Mayfield did come through, it was "less than the promised amount."

On the other front, Mayfield's new attorney has filed a second motion against NASCAR and its chairman, Brian France, whom he is accusing of tricking the authorities into moving the suit to a federal court.

The reason behind these latest accusations is based on France's admission he owns a home in North Carolina, even if he is a Florida resident. This allowed the trial to be moved to a federal court, a move which Mayfield claims would not have been possible without France's intervention.

"Apparently, Mr. France claims to be domiciled in Florida when it suits him for tax-avoidance purposes, but claims be domiciled in North Carolina when it suits him in litigation," Geragos' motion claims.
