Jeremy Clarkson Wants His Porsche Back from Argentina: Reports

Despite the controversies around the Argentina conflict, BBC only recently announced it would film its Top Gear special featuring the Falkland number plates episode over Christmas. Now, reports are that one of the team’s representative has asked for the three cars involved in the incident as the wrecked vehicles are currently in a building at Customs in Rio Grande.

Ever since the cast and crew of the famous British auto show had to abandon their cars at the roadside and flee Argentina things have been quite awkward for the lead presenter of the crew. The scandal started when locals saw that the Porsche Jeremy Clarkson was driving had a registration number that read “H982 FKL”, which could refer to the historical conflict between UK and Argentina over the Falklands islands.

The show’s hosts and even its producer have blamed the whole conflict on a simple misunderstanding, but the Argentinians still don’t seem to be over it. The Argentina ambassador to the UK, Alicia Castor, even filed for a formal complaint to the BBC over Clarkson’s editorial he wrote for the Sunday Times.

Meanwhile, life followed its normal course in the auto world and so did the Top Gear team, who recently announced they will continue with their Christmas special that includes the footage taken in the South American country this October. Whether the cars are needed to finish shooting the episode or simply to be returned to its rightful owner (because we’re guessing they did not buy the cars, but rather rented them for the episode), it would seem somebody asked for them.

According to the Mirror who quotes local radio station Aire Libre FM, somebody that did not identify as a representative of the show, called and asked for the cars.

“We can confirm the owners of the Porsche, Lotus and Ford Mustang were claimed by their owners through a person - not yet identified - who phoned Customs in Rio Grande. That person wanted to know what requirements these controversial Brits have to comply with to recover them,”
the source rights.

We can only hope the holiday spirit will make them all get together and be happy ever after.
