So you thought that Top Gear on TV is gone for good? In a way, that’s correct intel. Jeremy, James and Richard won’t host Top Gear on the telly anymore, but Top Gear Live is alive and kicking in Clarkson, Hammond and May Live guise. That’s not a joke.
Albeit the Norway tour dates have been rescheduled, the live action motoring theatre roadshow hasn’t been killed off like the current format Top Gear. The catch is: “these events [tour dates] will not, however, feature any BBC Top Gear branding or content.” In any case, who cares about this simple rebranding?
With Clarkson, Hammond and May onboard, I don’t and neither do the people that bought tickets to the shows. Regarding the Top Gear UK show on TV, the BBC previously confirmed that it’s going to return in 2016 with an all-new format. Some voices claimed that the host of The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 will be taking Captain Power’s role. You know what they say: don't believe the hype.
That’s not true! Chris denied the rumors a number of times already. No beating around the bush: The Stig has been confirmed to be the sole presenter of Top Gear. The BBC Media Centre released a statement today that mentions: “new-format Top Gear will be a serious show. One reason for going with this change of format is that The Stig doesn’t know how to talk, a detail that ensures no one will be offended by him.”
An insider source toldautoevolution : “BBC Director-General Tony Hall is a bit deaf in one ear and utterly deaf in the other. If his hearing were OK, Hall would have heard the British public’s heartfelt wish to keep Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear. But the Beeb’s big shot spat him out like a loose tooth.” How about that?
The BBC Media Centre’s statement mentions: “new-format Top Gear will drop the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment because The Stig isn’t a social being. Instead, the hour-long show will feature the tame racing driver doing powerslides on the track while listening to the music The Stig likes most.”
Some say his least favorite singer is Justin Bieber for one simple reason: The Stig would love to punch him in the face, but not over a cold plateau of food. A well-versed Stiganian language translator asked the Top Gear presenter why is violence necessary. The Stig replied: “Leopard print Audi R8, chrome-wrapped Fisker Karma. That's more offensive than the fat orangutan that previously hosted Top Gear! As I’m not a human being, I have no problem punching a girl in the kisser.”
On a less humorous note, April Fools’ Day also brings something new to the world of Top Gear. As you can see in the photo gallery below, the British and Romanian Top Gear websites have changed their top banner in the last 24 hours with one that only features The Stig.
