Jeremy Clarkson Replacement at Top Gear Rumored to Be Guy Martin, Bookies Take Bets

Some people would place bets on almost anything, so this is only with a smile when we learned that bookies in England are already offering odds to those putting their money on Guy Martin as the next Top Gear face. Yes, THE Guy Martin of Isle of Man Tourist Trophy fame and more recently, of TV fame. However, we’re still deep in rumor territory, so please take everything with a grain of salt.

If you have been following us during the past week, you should know about everything there is to know about the scandal around BBC’s Top Gear program, with one of the top names there involved in a fracas with one of the producers, punches apparently being thrown and all.

BBC announced laying Clarkson off yesterday

With all the rumors and the social media fuss, it was only yesterday when BBC officially announced letting Jeremy Clarkson go and put an end to Top Gear as we knew it. Sources in BBC mentioned that a renewal of the program was envisaged for 2016, but this was about all we have been let know.

Even so, as we already said, the rumor mill started to turn and the first name which got (still low) odds is that of road racer and TV host Guy Martin. Martin is a very charismatic guy (sic!) We reported earlier about Guy Martin’s plans to retire from racing and get back to his life as a truck mechanic. While he admitted that TV shows tampered a bit with his racing, he only said that he was looking for less publicity… not a single firm declaration about ditching potential TV jobs in the future.

Given the warm welcome his shows enjoyed (Speed with Guy Martin, Guy Martin's Spitfire, The Boat That Guy Built, among others) Guy Martin could maybe (just maybe) be a replacement for Jeremy Clarkson in the new Top Gear. Other British motorsport VIPs are also rumored to become part of Top Gear in the future, with the names of Charley Boorman and Suzi Perry, according to visordown.

Regardless of the sympathies or the antipathies Jeremy Clarkson stirred up along the years, one thing is certain: he leaves pretty big shoes which won’t be exactly easy to fill, no matter who comes in his place. And before putting you money on who is going to be the next Top Gear star, remember that on Instagram Jeremy Clarkson has already been “matched” to another TV outlaw, West Coast Choppers’ Jesse James, with the two described as a killer duo for a new TV show. We know it’s a crazy world out there, but this time things look really funny!
