Jeremy Clarkson Looks Awkward on a Vespa

It would seem we have quite the predicament on our hands. Every car aficionado out there knows that Top Gear presenter and car guru Jeremy Clarkson is an outspoken enemy of all motorcycles and the people who ride them.

So imagine our surprise when we see him very fancifully (and we use that term lightly) riding a Vespa around his village in the Cotwolds. And to make the geekiness complete, he wore a huge crash helmet, tinted ski goggles and a set of bright-red gloves that would make any flaming drag queen proud.

Knock-kneed and with a crooked back on an otherwise stylish Vespa GTV, it was kinda obvious Jeremy wasn't feeling the whole two-wheel riding thing and you could certainly tell he didn't belong on the bike.

It's not certain whether it was for a shoot or his personal enjoyment, but the microphone attached to the helmet and the fact that he looked miserable through the whole experience could point toward a “must do” assignment for the show.

Anyway, it's rather refreshing to see Jeremy, the man who once said bikes are the biggest killers among teens today, bigger than drugs, and, on another occasion, suggested that the number of bike riders today could be brought down by stretching a wire across roads.

Another interesting thing that's worth mentioning is the fact that this little “joy ride” could have caused Clarkson to break the law. The GTV comes either with a 125 or a 250 cc engine and, to the best of our knowledge, the Top Gear presenter does not hold a license for a bike, which is mandatory in case you're riding something as big as he was.

While it's safe to assume he won't go to jail for this little stunt, it's still funny to see Clarkson riding a bike, this after another behind-the-scenes shot from Vietnam pictured him and the other hosts of Top Gear in what appeared to be a bike ride. Could Clarkson be thinking of a new switch in format?
