Ladies and gentlemen, we were reporting on July 13th that Jeremy Clarkson is doing one last ever lap of the Top Gear test track. Behind him were three cars: a Ferrari 488 GTB, a LaFerrari, and a Mercedes-AMG GT S. The question was what car will Jeremy drive and the answer comes three days before the full story will be published by the British media – it's the 488.
I can only imagine what most Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson fans are thinking right now: "didn't he owned lots of AMGs over the years?" and "wasn't he the biggest Ferrari enthusiast... in the woooorld?" That would be a double affirmative answer. It's curious that he did his last ever Top Gear lap with the 488 GTB instead of the LaFerrari hypercar or the German brute, but we're not complaining – the 488 is a fine machine in its own right, a true blue-blooded Ferrari.
Jeremy said he did "the motherf***er of all tails slides through Chicago," and raised "a load of cash for a good cause." About that greenback, autoevolution has learned that Jeremy Clarkson raised £100,000 for The Roundhouse in Camden. The what? A charity that helps 11 to 25-year-old youngsters realize their potential in the performing arts, music biz, and media. If you remember our story from March, Clarkson publicly declared at The Roundhouse that he'll "go down to Surrey, and I'll do one last lap of that track before the f****** b******* sack me..." Well, it seems like he kept his word because two fans of the automotive guru each bid £50,000 to spend the morning with Jeremy Clarkson at the famous Dunsfold Aerodrome circuit.
The two lucky bastards that got to ride shotgun with Jeremy Clarkson in the 488 GTB (and the LaFerrari and AMG GT S for that matter) were also joined by Nick Mason. The famous car collector that also happens to be Pink Floyd's drummer offered his black LaFerrari to the winning bidders to have fun on the Top Gear track.
What a way to end a 13-year rollercoaster ride from a simple motoring TV show to the best one ever...
