Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez turned 50 this year and she celebrated with a massive, star-studded party. Among the many presents she received is also a “little” Porsche that will see her back at the wheel after 25 years.
Perhaps this is the most shocking bit of news: Jennifer doesn’t drive. That JLo got a Porsche on her birthday is hardly surprising, considering that she’s a wealthy woman who happens to be engaged to an equally wealthy man, Alex Rodriguez, aka A-Rod, considered by many the most talented man in American professional baseball.
In a video posted to Rodriguez’s official YouTube, he offers an insight into how he and the kids planned the birthday surprise, as well as Lopez’s first ride in over 2 decades. He decided about buying her a Porsche as we regular mortals decide it’s time to buy a new pair of socks, while on the phone with the dealer.
Hilariously, he says it’s a challenge buying Jennifer a present since she has everything, so he must be creative in order to surprise her. Buying a car as a birthday present doesn’t exactly rank as highly imaginative, but what matters is that she loved it. He eventually settled on a red, previous-generation 911 Carrera GTS Cabrio, which got a customized plate with glittering JLo on it. As if the Porsche wasn’t fabulous enough.
After the car was delivered to their home, Rodriguez enlisted the kids’ help to drive it up the driveway, right to where Jennifer was standing blindfolded. She was shocked: though she had a valid driver’s license, she hadn’t actually driven in 25 years. Believe it or not, but she never had a beautiful car – or so she said.
Jennifer ended up taking Alex for a ride through the neighborhood, and she casually remarked that, with the Porsche, he had given her her freedom back. It’s a sentiment most car owners will be able to relate, even if they don’t drive a Porsche.
FYI: a few days after Lopez’s birthday, when Alex turned 44, she surprised him with a gorgeous, customized, vintage Ford Bronco. As they say, what goes around comes around.
