In less than 10 days, the Bonhams auction house will have a very special motorcycle under the hammer: an 1952 Vincent Rapide Series C "Black Lightning" Special,a fully race-specced piece of bike history, customized by the famous Jeff Decker.
The Vincent is in perfect running condition and runs well, without any issues. Custom made by Jeff himself, this Black Lightning comes with Amal GP racing carburetors, instead of the Lightning-spec carbs.
This amazing machine can deliver around 70 HP and has a 998cc displacement and is a history-laden bike: Jeff Decker used actual racing parts used by Marty Dickerson for Bonneville salt flats racing, most of which supplied by Herb Harris.
Decker also made multiple modifications to the Lightning, narrowing the tank, lowering the seat, adding a custom exhaust and hand-made controls and a custom hydraulic shock for the girder fork.
After some drilling in the brakes for better cooling and all the modding, the Vincent ended up a lot lighter than the stock bike and therefore capable of better performance. The Decker Vincent Rapide Series C "Black Lightning" is expected to bring in $ 100,000 - 125,000 (€75,000 – 94,000), and given the fact that only 31 Black Lightning were built, we expect a high interest in it.
