Jeep Trackhawk Destroys Classic TVR and Audi in Unfair Drag Race

To celebrate the arrival of the Grand Cherokee to Britain, Jeep organized a weird race between it and a couple of classic motors that used to adorn the bedroom walls of teens.

One of the competitors is the TVR Griffith. No, it's not that new TVR that Shmee150 ordered and never got, but a classic model with a 5-liter V8 engine making 340 horsepower. It's supposed to do 100 km/h or 62mph in4.1 seconds and maxes out at 167 mph with a quarter mile time f 13.81 seconds.

If two doors don't do it for you, then consider the original Quattro. Audi had the strange idea of putting AWD in its saloons, which led to some amazing Group B rally monsters and Pikes Peak records. The road-going model featured a 5-cylinder turbo with about 220 hp and could do 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, according to the Jeep press release (it sounds off).

Back when it was new, the Quattro would set you back £45,000, which makes the £89,995 Jeep sound too expensive until you realize inflation isn't factored in. Only about 20 of these super-Jeeps will make it to Britain this year, and it's claimed they are "the fastest accelerating SUVs in the world."

Something tells me Tesla drag races are about to happen. Still, the Model X can't come close to hitting 180 mph (289 km/h) when flat-out. In any case, the 710 horsepower, supercharged monster quickly picks up the pace and never gives up its lead.

“There won’t be many of these incredible Grand Cherokee Tlackhawks available in the UK so, just like the car, customers are going to have to be quick,”
says Andrew Tracey, Marketing Director, Jeep UK. “The Trackhawk delivers astounding performance, through renowned SRT engineering. Combining world-class on-road driving dynamics with luxury, refinement and an array of innovative advanced technology, it is surely the best value high-performance SUV on the road.”
