Jeep Opens Pernambuco Assembly Plant in Brazil, President Dilma Rousseff Drops By

In the last half a decade or so, no other Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles brand improved its sales volume as Jeep did. After it sold more than a million vehicles in 2014, FCA’s most performant brand decided to open a state-of-the-art assembly plant in Brazil to satisfy demand.

Located in Goiana, Pernambuco, Brazil, the new Jeep facility opened its doors this week. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, member of the Workers’ Party, visited the complex and even checked out the 2015MY Jeep Renegade, as you can see in the adjacent photograph.

Jeep brand CEO Mike Manly declared that “2015 will be a transformational year in the globalization of the brand,” and first quarter sales figure seem to mirror his statement. It’s no wonder why the upper management decided to pour money into opening an all-new, highly modern factory.

The American sibling of the Fiat 500X is the hottest subcompact crossover SUV at the moment, with demand going through the roof. A rather curious detail about the Jeep Pernambuco factory is that it “can build up to three different models, but for starters it’s making new Jeep Renegades for sale across Latin America.”

In numbers, the Pernambuco looks something like this:

  • Jeep Assembly Plant: 2,799,000 sq. feet. / 260,000 sq. meters
  • Supplier Park: 2,906,000 sq. feet / 270,000 sq. meters, for 16 suppliers
  • Expected to employ more than 9,000 people by the end of 2015, including 3,300 at the Jeep plant
  • Will use 700 robots total, including 650 for welding, 40 for painting and 10 for assembly

In terms of pricing, the entry-level variant of the 2015 Jeep Renegade costs $17,995 in the United States, £16,995 in the United Kingdom and €19,900 in Europe. Now what about that all-new Jeep Grand Wagoneer, coming in 2018 with Maserati-sourced twin-turbo V6 and V8 engines?
