Automotive producers seem to have identified the holy grail of increased fuel efficiency, as being an automatic transmission with as many ratios as possible. While Hyundai is working to develop a 10-speed automatic, Jeep is now confirming that it will fit the Grand Cherokee with a ZF eight-speed gearbox, adding that it is considering introducing a nine-speed ZF gearbox in future models.
The move will allow Jeep to reduce its average CO2 emissions, as the company is looking to introduce a strategy change. It seems that Jeep is willing to bring all its future models closer to road use in order to make them more fuel-efficient.
However, the brand’s off-road spirit will not be killed, as the automotive producer plans to offer a rough terrain-destined “Trail Rated” version for each model, which will cater to the needs of those who love adventures in the wild.
