The Hellcat-engined Jeep Grand Cherokee is still nowhere in sight, yet Jeep decided to surprise its British customers with a raft of new features for 2016 and 2017. The biggest surprise, however, is the advent of the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Night.
As the name implies, the SRT Night is a high-performance version of the Grand Cherokee with covert-like visual touches. The stealth treatment starts with the grille mounts and continues with the B- and C-pillars of the SUV, as well as the side window surrounds. Matte black is also used for the front applique and the Jeep and SRT exterior badging.
The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Night wears Black Vapor wheels finished in a unique shade of satin black that contrasts beautifully with the red-painted Brembo brake calipers. Interior appointments that enhance the ominous looks of the SRT Night include Black Laguna leather seats, lit SRT lettering and anodized silver bezel for the steering wheel, light black chrome surround for the center console, as well as lit SRT lettering for the sill plates.
Under the hood of this mid-size sport utility brawler with a bad attitude, you’ll find a naturally aspirated HEMI V8 displacing 6.4 liters. In UK market tune, the thumping great powerplant delivers 468 horsepower and 624 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque. The performance of the atmospheric HEMI V8 is sufficient for a stint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 5 seconds and a top end of 160 mph (257 km/h).
Priced from £69,865 OTR, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT in Night form is three grand more expensive than the regular model and £24,815 more than the entry-level Limited+ with the 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel. On the upside, the limited-run SRT Night does come with many goodies as standard, including Performance Pages for the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, launch control feature, and a performance-optimized Selec-Trac system with five modes: Auto, Sport, Tow, Track, and Snow.
