Jeep Cherokee Rewarded with New Diesel Engine With 185 HP and 200 HP Outputs in the UK

Jeep just announced a set of changes for the Cherokee in the UK market and among those we must mention a new diesel mill that offers a boost in power and torque.

We're talking about a 2.2-liter diesel engine with MultiJet technology available in two power versions: with 185 horsepower and 200 horsepower worth of grunt, along with 440 Nm (324.5 lb-ft) of torque.

The new engine is available only with Jeep’s nine-speed automatic gearbox and matched to the Active-Drive four-wheel-drive systems.

Along with the engine, the Cherokee lineup has been refreshed, with additional equipment becoming standard. We're talking about an electric tailgate, windscreen wipers with rain sensor, dusk sensor, eight-position electrically adjustable seat, four-position lumbar adjustment and automatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror with a built-in microphone.

Coming back to the new 2.2-liter engine, you should know it comes as a pair with Jeep’s Active Drive I system, but it can be requested with Active Drive II on the Limited 200-horsepower model.

The difference between the two solutions is that Active Drive I offers Jeep’s original rear-axle disconnect system that improves fuel economy, while Active Drive II adds a two-speed power transfer unit, for 2:92:1 ‘low range’ capability and hill-descent control. But don't worry, both versions carry a towing capacity of 2,500 kg (5,511 lbs).

About the new 2.2-liter diesel

The aggregate is assembled in the Pratola Serra plant, near Avellino, Italy. It also enables a zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 8.5 seconds when equipped with the nine-speed auto gearbox.

Jeep tells us the displacement of the new engine (2184 cm3) was defined to obtain high power, torque delivery and fuel efficiency and is combined with an optimised exhaust gas treatment system. Also, the engine is Euro 6 standard compliant.
