Jeep Cherokee Gets 4 Stars Euro NCAP Rating, Beats the Wrangler

Euro NCAP, Europe’s top safety watchdog when it comes to automobiles, published on Wednesday (October 9) a new series of crash tests results. In this latest batch, the organization tried the impact resistance of four vehicles, two of which failed to get the top honors.

The best performers of these latest tests are both new BMW cars. The new 1- and 3 Series had to survive the trials and tribulations of the crash procedures, and they did so with flying colors: both cars were awarded the top 5-star rating.

Still, says Euro NCAP, the adult occupant protection on the new 1 Series would have been higher it not for its front seat missing a good rating for whiplash protection. There were no other mentions when it comes to the testing of the 3 Series.

“It’s good to see the premium brands, from Germany and elsewhere, maintaining the very high standards they have set for themselves and continuing to achieve five-star ratings,” said in a statement Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen.

“I’m sure that BMW’s customers can be confident that the company will continue to strive for the highest standards of safety, even as our protocols get tougher and tougher.”

As for the two cars that failed to get recognized as top performers, they are the new variants of the Jeep Cherokee and Peugeot 208, both of which got just four stars in the end. The American-made car is considered to have good but unexceptional performance across the board, while the 208 was sanctioned because of its lack of proper protection when it comes to vulnerable road users (cyclists and pedestrians).

Despite its not-so-great performance, the Cherokee managed however to outclass the Wrangler by a great margin. Tested last year, one of Jeep’s most prized possessions was utterly destroyed by the organization, which gave it just 1 star.
