Jedi Chinese Traffic Officer Foresees the Future, Prevents Massive Accident

One traffic agent in the busy Chinese city of Hangzhou had a very difficult job on his hands: he had to make sure the flow of cars through a major intersection didn't get clogged.

He's probably done that quite a few times before in his life, so you would excuse him if he entered autopilot mode. It's not that hard: you just wave your arms around and pretend to be doing something as the cars ignore you anyway and go about their way unaffected. In fact, you should count yourself lucky if they don't hit you.

This guy, however, appears still to believe in doing the driving himself, so he was quite aware of his surroundings. And not just the cars passing through that intersection, but also the intersection itself. He saw there was something fishy going on in one area, so he started moving his arms more convincingly, trying to keep cars away from there.

Seeing he had little success, he used a few traffic cones to help him close off part of that busy intersection. This must have gotten him a lot of not so very nice words from the drivers who were already having a hard time getting through without him strangling the traffic even further.

However, moments later, the crack he spotted in the asphalt turned out to be one giant sinkhole that could have swallowed three cars easily. The CNN video says it was two-meters deep (that's 6'8"), but thanks to our man's heroics, nobody got hurt. Not only did he manage to spot the danger in time but he also took the necessary measures to contain it, even though it clearly wasn't the easy thing to do. And while we'd be tempted to think he was a hero, if you think about it, he was just doing his job. He was doing it exceptionally well, which is something we're not really used to, but nothing more. He didn't go beyond the call of duty, he just did everything it was asked of him. More people like this guy, please.
