The 2012 Toyota Camry still needs our attention, as Toyota has recently introduced a new version of the car. This time it’s the Japanese domestic market (JDM) version of the car, which is being launched exclusively with a hybrid powertrain.

We are talking about a new four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine that uses the Atkinson Cycle to deliver 160 hp and works together with an 143 hp electric motor, offering a combined output of 205 hp. Toyota has gone to great lengths to reduce fuel consumption, so let's see if these have payed out.

The vehicle's fuel efficiency sits at 62.3 mpg (3.8 liters per 100 km or 26.5 km per liter) when the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) 10-15 test cycle is used and at 55 mpg ( 4.3 liters per 100 km or 23.4 km/l) when using the JC08 test cycle.

The vehicle does come with a few exterior tweaks, which, considering the fact that we are talking about a hybrid, also have an aerodynamic role. The Japanese automotive producers has also introduced a few changes for the gadgets. For example, the HDD-based navigation system now warns the driver via audio and visual signals when he goes the wrong way on a highway.

The Japanese pricing of the car starts at JPY3,040,000 ($39,300, at the current exchange rate), while at the other end of the scale we find a model that will set you back JPY3,800,000 ($49,100).
