Founded in 1945, JCB is synonymous with tractors, excavators, tipping trailers, the whole nine yards. But JCB is also responsible for the fastest tractor in the world, a feat worthy of the Guinness Book of Records.
Back in 2006, the company set the land speed record for a diesel-engined vehicle with a speed of 350.092 miles per hour. The six-speed Fastrac also uses a turbo diesel, modified to produce 1,000 horsepower and 2,5000 Nm of torque. With the help of the 7.2-liter blunderbuss and nerves of steel of Guy Martin, the tractor managed to hit 103.6 mph in a straight line.

JCB also modified the aerodynamics with the help of Williams Advanced Engineering. The previous speed record for tractors was set in March 2018 by none other than The Stig, averaging 87.27 mph.

“We’ve long harbored a dream to attempt a speed record with the Fastrac and the whole team has worked tirelessly to achieve this amazing result,” said Lord Bamford. “I’m extremely proud of what they have achieved in such a short space of time.”

“It had been a great day with the JCB at Elvington, proper job with some right proper engineers,” said motorcycle racer turned television presenter Guy Martin. “She felt rock steady on the runway.”

Headquartered in Rocester, JCB plans to tell the whole story on Channel 4 later in the year. Not much is known about this special feature, but chances are Lord Bamford and Guy Martin will be featured alongside the engineers who modified the Fastrac.

Described as a high-speed agricultural tractor family, the Fastrac launched in 1991 with 6-liter Perkins engines. The 7.2-liter DieselMax engine is produced in Foston, Derbyshire, and it is based on a 4.8-liter DieselMax four-cylinder. The turbocharged leviathan needs servicing every 500 hours or so.

The 8000-series Fastrac pictured with Guy Martin next to the tractor is the biggest Fastrac ever, and as expected, this bad boy doesn’t come cheap. In Farming Simulator, the list price for the 8000 is… wait for it… $225,000.
