Jay Leno loves his classic cars and his airplanes but, as it turns out, he loves kittens just as much. The former television personality and known car collector agreed to “rent out” one of his garages for a charity event.
For Christmas, the Burbank, California garage was transformed into a kitten wonderland. Leno agreed to move some of his classic cars out, to make room for hundreds of kittens and the good people from Luxe Paws Rescue, an organization that operates in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Los Feliz, Silver Lake and Echo Park, and addresses the issues of kitty overpopulation.
Videos and photos of the kitten wonderland were posted to social media, with Luxe Paws praising Leno for being so generous to offer them his space. Leno himself was at the event, cuddling kittens and doing his best to raise awareness on the importance of having stray cats caught, neutered and then released – or TNR, as the organization calls it.
For the event, an entire area was cleared and surrounded by white fence. Inside, kittens had their playing ground, complete with toys and humans to operate them, Christmas tree and lights, and plenty of treats.
“So Jay Leno decided to play Santa Claws & transform his classic car airplane hanger in Burbank into kitten wonderland,” the organization says in one caption on the official Instagram.
“Our good friend & writer, director of the documentary, Cat People @asako3856 helped us wrangle the kittens & the whole event was organized by Karn Myers of @fixnation. We were honored to celebrate Christmas with Jay, Mavis & their closest friends & family all to shine the spotlight on the best way to #savekittens is spay/neuter & #TNR,” the post further says, declaring this holiday season the “#catmas2018.”
It’s not uncommon for celebrities to do nice things for stray animals around the holidays: Howard Stern, the often-times controversial SiriusXM host, often uses his homes in Manhattan and the Hamptons to foster cats. So far, he and his wife have taken hundreds of them under his roof.
