Jay Leno Tests Morgan Threewheeler

Jay Leno has been getting his fix of European cars, and we’ve already brought you his test of both the oldest VW Beetle ever and the brand new one. The car connoisseur has also gotten his hands on some performance wheels in the form of the SLS AMG Roadster and the SLS AMG E-CELL. Now, the American talk-show host went across the channel for some three-wheeled action.

Yes folks, he tested the Threewheeler at Morgan’s factory, where cars have been put together since 1910. We’re not convinced of the mass-market merits of such a strange vehicle, but Leno obviously loves it, because he has an older version back home in his California garage. We don’t know about you, but this is the first proper shakedown with the Morgan we’ve seen so far, outside of the videos published by the manufacturer of course.

Jay says the ‘car’ is a load of laughs and is a lot better than the version he has, because it holds the road better and the brakes actually work. Not having any protection from the elements gives a tremendous sensation of speed and acceleration.

Unfortunately, while trying to turn it, Leno manages to get it stuck by the the side of the road on a bit of grass. Fortunately, the crew comes to the rescue and pulls the little Treewheeler out of the little ditch and back on the road.

We’ll remind you that the Threewheeler comes with retro looks and a V-twin fuel injected engine good for 115hp and mated to a Mazda 5-speed gearbox. It weighs about half a ton and reaches 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds.
