It's been more than once when we reported on the sizzling hot Magpul Ronin project, but it's only now we get such deep insights in the whole Ronin deal. Jay Leno had Mike Mayberry in his garage, alongside 4 Ronin bikes, of which one was a prototype.
As a co-founder and Lead Designer for Ronin Motorworks, Mayberry is the most qualified individual to tell the Ronin story. It's really nice hearing how the whole project was started out as a complex concept aimed at delivering 47 mind-blowing bikes and then call it quits.
Some might say that the goal is a bit too ambitious, but many of the 47 Ronin bikes are already sold. And with few remaining from this ultra-limited run, these will become instant collectibles when they are gone.
Buell 1125 on steroids
Despite their radical looks, Ronin remain largely Buell 1125s. The fuel frame and swingarm are all Buell, and so are the wheels, even though the front end and the airbox (looking like a tank) are made in-house. The bars and the rear subframe modify the riding position adding to the comfort and providing effortless steering.
The whole switching gear controls solid-state relays and the airbox also houses the electronics for clean, tidy looks. The fluid design of the collectors reminds us about Buell's zero-compromise vibe, while the underbelly exhaust is also a Magpul creation, and it looks, in fact, on par with the high-end Termignoni cans.
Ronins can be had for around $40,000 (€35,600), and Mayberry says Magpull will NOT customize any Buells willing owners think of bringing in. The Ronin series will only be comprised of 47 bikes and then all the team's efforts will be directed to other projects.
