Jay Leno Gets Chinese Driving License, Drives in Beijing

We’ve heard that China is advancing at an alarming pace, that they are starting to make a name for themselves with cheap cars and that their streets are crowded and polluted because everybody wants to own an automobile now.
But very few people actually go there to check it out. Jay Leno isn’t as busy as he used to be with TV shows and so he took a trip to Asia. There, he wanted to experience what it’s like to drive in Beijing and actually got himself a Chinese driver’s license... believe it or not.

His companion in this journey of discovery is a brand new VW Touareg Hybrid and the advice of a taxi driver: be strong, but be careful.

Jay tells us that because there are so many cars in Beijing, you can only drive your can every other day. Odd number plates on odd days and even numbers on the other day. Of course, if you’re rich you can just buy two cars. Another oddity is the fact that there are a lot of pink cars around, for a reason we don’t really understand.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
