Jay Leno Gets an Everyday Volt

Known as possibly the greatest car/bike/airplane lover on the surface of this planet, TV star Jay Leno has gone mad. We are familiar with his exploits in the automotive realm, with his passion for tuned cars, sport cars, high performance cars and even for some of the reviews he made for a vehicle or two.

Now that the world has been engulfed by an electric vehicle frenzy, Leno appears to be playing by the rules of the pack. So, just like a true American, he decided to give a helping hand to GM, by buying a Chevrolet Volt and publicly saying he likes it.

Now, there's nothing wrong with that and, if we were famous, we would buy a Volt and brag about it too (unlike James Cameron, who decided to give the main actors in Avatar blue Priuses). But some of you might remember that back in July, Leno said that the Volt is "a people mover, not a people impresser."

Asked by a journalist if he were the first person to buy a Volt (he was not, that title went to Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick, who paid $225,000 for the first Volt to roll off the assembly lines), Leno said “I already own a lot of cars and they tend to be sports cars,” adding that the Volt is more of an “everyday car, you know, not a Corvette.”

Too commonplace for you, Jay? Apparently, not. Leno got his Volt this week from a dealership in Los Angeles and promised to play nice. That is, do with the car what the car was meant to do: drive it everyday.
