Last year, the Polestar division became a sort of in-house tuner for Volvo. They two companies have collaborated in the past on a number of project, and Polestar even runs a racing team using Volvo cars.
But by far their greatest achievement for the year was the introduction of the S60 Polestar Concept. Based on the regular sedan, they've built a one-off custom car with 508 hp and all-wheel drive that could humiliate all of its german rivals.
The car look a lot like the regular S60, so naturally, people had trouble understanding why somebody payed $300,000 for it.
Thanks to Jay Leno, we finally understand. It's not a stock S60 with a tuned engine at all. Most of it is custom-made, from wider doors to carbon fiber fenders.
The S60 Polestar is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine which has been tuned using race tech to produce 508 horsepower and 575Nm (424 lb-ft) of torque. The Polestar will sprint into the nighttime ski at the speed of 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.9 seconds. Top speed is also up there with the best of them – 186 mpg (300 km/h).
