Jay Leno is famous for a doing and owning a lot of things, but he is mostly known for his huge automobile collection, which gathers vintage, classic and modern vehicle alike.
As we’ve already seen on his website, he drives them quite often and knows just about anything on each vehicle he owns. And while his collection is most impressive, Leno still misses several notorious American cars for one simple reason: they’re unique!
However, he was lucky enough to see some of them up close and even have a little fun in them, just like it happened with the latest one-off vehicle to arrive at his garage: the Mormon Meteor III. Built by Ab Jenkins in 1937, this stunning race car is powered by a 26-liter Curtis Conqueror engine that develops 750 HP. Usually driven at the Bonneville Salt Flats, the Meteor III achieved a top speed of 171 mph (275 km/h) in 1939 with Jenkins behind the wheel and broke all of the 12-hour endurance records.
Leno, who seems more than impressed with the Mormon, took the car back to its Bonneville play ground for a spin. But not before talking about the vehicle’s history-packed past. Scroll below for the video
