Jay Leno takes us on the memory lane again, showing us a 1953 Allard J2X MKII replica. This is a car born in the era when the word “hybrid” had a very different meaning and the famous automotive afficionado gives us a pretty good idea of what it's like.
Allard Motor Company was an English car manufactured founded in 1945, manufacturing 1900 vehicles in its short existence until 1966. Among them, was the J2 competition “hybrid” roadster.

No, the J2 didn’t had electric motors or any green technology at all. In those days, a hybrid was referring to the car’s overall identity and building style. The J2 was successfully combining European handling with American muscle power.

Having a lightweight hand-built aluminum body, independent suspension and a Ford flathead V8, the J2 managed to take third place at LeMans, being driven by Sydney Allard himself, the founder of the company.

We don’t want to spoil Lenon’s HEMI powered Allard J2 MKII replica by telling you about all its features, so you’ll have to discover them in the video bellow.
