Jason Plato Tests the New BMW F12 M6

The new BMW M6 took the world by surprise. It wasn't because of its look or because, for the first time since the original E24, it has a small M badge fitted on the kidney grilles at the front.

The surprising feature of the new M6 was the way it felt. Looking at the numbers you'll notice that the F12 M6 is quite heavy. It weighs 2,055 kg (4,530 lb) but you never feel it. That's what Plato discovered, like with many others before him, when he drove BMW's new car.

That is possible due to the amazing chassis of the car but also due to the turbocharged V8 under the bonnet. The S63 4.4-liter V8 twin turbo engine of the M6 has 560 HP and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. The torque delivered by the 2 turbochargers on the V8 is amazing and makes the car agile and quick on its feet.

Even the pretentious Jason Plato had to admit the new M6 is a great car and it's really hard to find unpleasant things about it. In order to find anything wrong with it, Jason had to be "hypercritical". The only fault he found was that the F12 M6 has a small tendency to understeer.

Overall, in his own words, the M6 is a "great driver's car" and "really good fun". That says it all. That's what M cars should be like in the first place, and the M6 delivers exactly what you expect: a great driving experience and a lot of fun.
