Creative, out of the box thinking is the best kind of thinking. Especially when things tend to get a bit dull in the automotive scene, with the same builds over and over again. But few people dare venture into an unknown realm because that means you'll be spending more, and you'll be making your life more difficult. But then again, Rome wasn't built in a day, and if you really want to achieve something incredible, the extra effort will be worth it.
Even though car shows have had it rough for the past several months for the reason we all know about, time hasn't stopped in its tracks for tuners as they have pushed on with their plans. And we've gotten used to seeing some very wild projects being built in Japan. Also, for some reason, it looks like 2021 might just be a year filled with unexpected Ferrari projects.

Just recently, we showed you the Honda K-swapped Ferrari 308 GTBi that Mike Burroughs is building. The enthusiast groups and forums were all lit up with divided opinions regarding that project. So when we came across this new Ferrari build, we knew that this would stir up even more heat. Because if you could argue that using a Honda inline-4 engine in a Ferrari was not enough, there's not much you can say about this one.

Because Ama-san, the mastermind behind rotary tuning specialist RE-Amemiya in Japan, has decided to start his new project based on a Ferrari Testarossa. That's right, a V12 powered Italian icon. Seeing that RE-Amemiya specializes in rotary engines, you kind of get the idea as to where this is going. Of course, swapping in a simple two-rotor engine would not have been enough, so Ama-san went straight to business with a massive 4-rotor build.

While the frame of the car will still be a Testarossa, extensive work will be carried on the outside, and rumors have it that the final result might resemble a classic Group C race car. The interior has been redesigned as well, using MDF and other materials, and will be soon wrapped in leather to retain that exclusive feel to it. As if using a 4-rotor engine wasn't enough, the unit will be turbocharged as well.

It seems that the engine is actually pretty similar to what Re-Amemiya used in their 2020 D1GP program, and should be capable of 800 horsepower on low boost. The gearbox is a manual and has been outsourced from a Subaru vehicle. What's most interesting about this build is it will be street legal, and it's certainly going to be faster than a stock Testarossa. The build should be finished soon, we'll keep an eye out for the first road test!
