James Stewart wins at St. Louis

This weekend, San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart recorded a victory at the 14th round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, in St. Louis.

In front of 59,518 supercross fans, the Yamaha rider scored his fourth victory of the season. Second came Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey and third place went to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s rider, Ryan Villopoto.

Ivan Tedesco from Hart & Huntington/Dodge Motorsports Racing Team won the holeshot and led the field, but not for long, as Ryan Dungey and James Stewart were following in close. On lap 2, Stewart passed Tedesco who, on lap 3, was forced to give up his spot to Dungey. The Suzuki rider was unable to recover the lost ground that separated him from Stewart as the Yamaha rider crossed the finish line. Villopoto took full advantage of Chad Reed’s bad landing and moved in third place.

It’s been a while since I have been up here,” said Stewart after the race. “This feels great, and I am really happy for the team, who has been behind me 100% this year,” he added.

In the overall riders' standings, Villopoto is the leader with just 5 points ahead of Dungey. “I’ll take a third place finish; it is much better than last year,” said Villopoto, who suffered an injury in 2010 at St. Louis. “I am looking forward to going to my hometown race next weekend in Seattle,” he added.
