James May noticed that unboxing videos are popular on YouTube, so he decided to film one too. It's not a model train like you'd expect, but a full-blown car, the Toyota Yaris GRMN.
This isn't that Mazda2-based sedan garbage you buy in America, but a full blown hot hatch. It's like the Fiesta ST, but better and more expensive.

The GRMN is a small project from Toyota's racing divisions, and it's very rare. They're only making a few hundred of these, and seeing one delivered inside a huge cardboard box is honestly expected.

As May reads the numbers on the box, we learn... what we already knew, that it's got a Lotus-like 1.8-liter with a supercharger making 209bhp and 184 lb-ft. The honest toy comes with a 6-speed manual and will do 62mph in 6.3 seconds on its way to 143mph. Those numbers are a little off from the ones we know, but we do not doubt it's fast.

It wouldn't be an unboxing without enjoying the packaging. It starts with a tear tab, a giant one. After that, May takes out some giant styrofoam blocks, which he says will be turned into sculptures. And while smartphones have something covering the screens, the Yaris' windshield is wrapped as well. Even the seats have been boxed, much to the enjoyment of the Grand Tour presenter.

Just to let you know it's the exciting one, the GRMN decorates its dull Yaris body with black stripes, a big wing, and a mid-mounted exhaust system.

We find it a little amusing that this video has been released on the JM unemployment tube channel, which May started after he left Top Gear and wanted to keep busy. Obviously, there's going to be 3rd season of the Amazon-sponsored show, which is coming out in January, but after that...

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
