The former Top Gear presenter who likes purple stripey jumpers, piano music, and saying "Oh c%ck!" is preparing something good for us. Courtesy of rally driver David Higgins, we now know that Captain Slow took up rally driving lessons. Ambitious? Yes. Rubbish? Not at all because David certainly knows how to give driving lessons.
On his official Facebook page, Higgins posted the adjacent photograph of May striking a pose in front of a sign that reads "Higgins Rally School." As some of you might already know, David is driving for the Subaru Rally Team USA, and he is a six-time American Rally Champion. Set within a 900-acre Welsh forest, a one-on-one tuition with David in a rally car is what petrolhead dreams are made of. Fingers crossed James is up to the task of slippin' & slidin' a rally car.
But then again, James May proved that he is a good student. As a starting point, former Formula 1 racing driver Mika Hakkinen taught Captain Slow how to drive at high velocity in Finland. Then there's the second-to-last episode of Top Gear – Series 22 Episode 7 saw May compete in a rallycross race after Global RallyCross champ Tanner Foust gave him driving lessons in an ultra-powerful Volkswagen Polo. With David Higgins, we expect that James May will become an even more capable amateur rally driver. How come, you're asking? Well, we should thank Higgins for being one of the most badass drivers in rallying history.
Nobody knows why James May is with David Higgins at the present moment, but the 52-year-old English television presenter is up to something, alright. Maybe it's for the Amazon Prime car show Gear Knobs or maybe it's just for a documentary. James May also does car-themed documentaries, you know. Oh, and we should mention that David Higgins isn't the same guy with Isle of Man TT record-breaker Mark Higgins.
Still, all we know is that the second photograph uploaded by Higgins on Facebook features a "1983 classic [Audi Quattro] group B car for some film work." Excited? So are we. We're cheering for you, James May!
