Jaguar’s XS 3-Series Rival Rendered

Jaguar have made a genuinely great car in the form of the XF, which, with its recent facelift and the addition of the 2.2-liter diesel to its engine range is now worth buying more than ever.

However, with the BMW 3-Series being the compact-exec benchmark for the last decade or so, Jaguar have plans to take away the BMW’s crown. The car, currently known as the XS, will be slightly more expensive than its competitors, but according to Jaguar, it will also offer a sense of occasion when driven, which will be unequaled by any of its rivals, so the price premium will be worth it.

The car will probably be based on the PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture), set to also underpin the future replacement for the current XF. Engines-wise, expect a combination of Evoque and XF engines to make up the XS’ line-up. This means that they will range from the 2.0-liter turbocharged unit found in the Evoque, which may be detuned to produce several versions, the 2.2-liter diesel recently added to the XF’s line-up, the 3.0-liter diesel found in both the XF and the XJ, and possibly one of Jaguar’s new engines, with a supercharged V6 powering the range topper.

If they don’t make the same mistakes they made with the Mondeo-based X-Type, in terms of its concept, marketing strategy and overall perceived quality of the car, Jaguar will definitely have a real winner on their hands, as there are definitely people out there who want a prestige compact-exec but don’t want any of the Germans, and they will hit the nail on the head if they manage to attract these people.
