It goes by the name of XE and Jaguar officials are confident it will (successfully) battle the BMW 3 Series. Well, that's a mountain to climb for the new XE but in order to succeed, Jaguar took care of a few things.
First of all, they invested around half a billion pounds ($730,881 / €692,991) in their Solihull facility, turning the location into what officials like to call a 'factory within a factory'.

The facility is also home to Europe's largest aluminum body shop, a crucial aspect for Jaguar since, guess what: upcoming Jaguars - starting with the XE - will be underpinned by a new aluminum modular platform.

Jaguar wanted their 3 Series rival to feature a 75% aluminium structure because the company has high hopes for the sedan in terms of dynamic conduct. In addition, the Leaping Cat saloon will use Jaguar's new-generation Ingenium engines, for improved fuel economy, punchy response and refined personality. So they say.

As you might already know, the Ingenium range consists of modern four-cylinder petrol and diesel mills featuring direct injection, variable valve timing and smart regenerative charging.

Besides the Ingenium beating hearts under the hood, the XE will most likely come dressed as an S version. For that, engineers will take the F-Type's supercharged V6 and stick it under the XE's hood. Therefore, the most powerful XE will bring 340 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) to the table, translated into 4.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h).

The XE looks good on paper as well as in the metal, but as I mentioned before, having a go at the BMW 3 Series isn't a piece of cake job. In fact, the Bavarian model will be a very hard nut to crack for the Jaguar XE, but time will tell.
