Jaguar’s midsize sedan, the XE, could get a performance engine with a V8 engine, which could be borrowed from the F-Pace.
We already know that Jaguar is testing the SVR version of the F-Pace, and a video of the vehicle while driving on the Nurburgring disclosed the fact that it has a V8 engine. Since the F-Pace and the XE share their underpinnings, the British brand might finally introduce an M3 competitor, but with the company’s signature V8 unit.
As we previously reported, spy photographers have not spotted any prototypes of what might become the next Jaguar XE-R. However, that is not going to stop the marque from Coventry when it comes to developing a performance model based on the XE.
Some believe that the company will apply a strategy similar to what Audi used to do to its cars — they first launch the “regular” version, wait up to a year for an S model, and then wait some more before the RS is released.
Audi’s separated launch strategy works pretty well from many points of view, because the news regarding the new car is never diluted by the specs of the performance model, and the vice versa also applies.
There is one unfortunate drawback to this strategy, which comes down to the fact that customers of the performance model will have to wait more time before the sportiest option is available.
In the case of extremely loyal clients, that is not a problem, but people do lose their patience when they have to wait a few years until a particular car is launched.
If we were to believe the rumors that announce a future Jaguar XE-R, some might say that it will be worth the wait, because it will be unique in the segment.
Unfortunately, the last hoorah for the ongoing generation of the Jaguar XE might not make it to all of the company’s showrooms, and that could happen if future emissions standards will restrict automakers to levels that are difficult to attain without V8s in their lineups.
