Slated to make its world debut on September 8th, the Jaguar XE compact sedan is eagerly anticipated by fans of the breed that weren't impressed by the Mondeo-based X-Type. 3 weeks are left until the big moment and Jag is teasing us with yet another highlight of its aluminum-laden BMW 3 Series rival.
We currently know that Jaguar Land Rover will ditch its technical ties with Ford by replacing the 2-liter and 2.2-liter turbo engines used by the Jaguar XF, Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover LR2 with a new family of powerplants. Known as the Ingenium, the new set of turbo'd petrol and diesel mills use modern gadgetry as central direct high-pressure fuel injection, VVT and start & stop technology. The manufacturer also tells that the new engines weigh about 176 pounds less than the outgoing units from Ford, while the first new Ingenium engine will be the 2-liter AJ200D diesel that'll propel the XE.

The British luxury marque also announced that the all-new XE will use a bonded and riveted unibody that uses over 75 percent aluminum in its construction for increased torsional rigidity and a lower curb weight to aid fuel economy and driving dynamics. Even the suspension will adopt F-Type-sourced double wishbones at the front, so the Jaguar XE shapes up to be a pretty potent addition to the D-segment.

This time around, the big news comes from the inside of the British cat. Specifically, Jaguar has detailed the InControl infotainment system. One of the least satisfying features of current Jaguar models is the infotainment system: it's laggy like a Pentium 3 and it has worse screen resolution than what one might find on a modern smartphone. But the British brand is adamant that the new InControl system designed around an 8-inch touchscreen will be quicker, clearer, more intuitive for the user and responsive.

The 2015 Jaguar XE will allow drivers to stay via the Remote feature. Through it, users of iOS and Android smartphones can connect to the car from wherever they are and control a range of vehicle functions. These include 7-day timed pre-setting of the climate control system, locking and unlocking the doors and starting the engine. But wait, there's more! Jaguar InControl Apps is designed for users that want to access phone apps through the vehicle's touchscreen. With a purchased data plan, the XE can also function as a Wi-Fi hotspot, similar to what General Motors offers with its OnStar 4G LTE feature.

An array of driver assistance systems is also on the menu, including an all-new laser heads-up display. Projecting sharp, high-contrast color images onto the windshield, this new technology provides the driver with information such as speed and navigation instructions with maximum clarity and minimum distraction. Designed and engineered in the U.K., the all-new XE premium sedan will be the first Jaguar nameplate manufactured at a new production facility at JLR's Solihull plant in the West Midlands region.
