Jaguar Uses The Mountain to Show How Much the New XF Lost in Weight

You think losing 190 kg (419 lbs) in weight is not a big deal for a car? Well, what if you find a way to put that into perspective? You could use a boat filled with fish, a cart filled with bottles of milk or perhaps a bunch of sexy models sitting in a car. Or, you could use Game of Thrones star Hafpor Julius “Thor” Bjornsson, who is so big, they called him The Mountain in HBO’s praised television series.

Thor is quite famous in Iceland, where he spent most of his life training to literally become the strongest man around. The former professional basketball player is one of the most successful strongman competitors. You don’t need much to see how strong this gentleman is; just take a fast peek at his personal records and your jaw will drop instantly.

For instance, the top weight he could squat with was 380 kg (837 lbs), the highest bench press was 230 kg (510 lbs), while the most impressive log carry was when he carried 650 kg (1,433 lbs) for five steps. Put it this way, the first smart fortwo weighs about 740 kg (1,630 lbs). So the next general question any sane person would ask is: what does this guy eat?

Forget about the strongman’s meal habits, just think of this: at 26, Bjornsson currently weighs 190 kg (419 lbs). Perhaps, this sounds quite scary, but for Jaguar it was just perfect. Why? Because the British automaker’s new XF is precisely 190 kg lighter than before. To be more precise, 75 percent of the sedan is aluminum, a feat that implies a 28 percent better torsional stiffness over the outgoing model.

Since we started this conversation, you'll also want to know we’re looking at a choice of 2-liter diesel engines all the way up to the 2015 Jaguar XF S’ 3-liter supercharged V6, with power starting at 163PS and reaching 380 PS, depending on engine version.
