Jaguar Unveils Fastest Open-Top GT: XKR-S Convertible

You’ve probably head all about this car already, so we’re not going to bore you to death with details, so here’s the big bits: Jaguar has unveiled the XKR-S Convertible, which uses a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 that produces 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. The manufacturer says it should £103,000, which isn’t that bod considering it does 186mph (300km/h) and 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds).

That means that an extra 40PS and 55Nm over the XKR have been liberated from the V8. What’s more the Performance Active exhaust system that was also fitted to the coupe makes one of the sweetest noises in the business.

You’re probably thinking “that’s not a proper Jag!” right now, and you’d be right, but the fact is you’ve got something that makes the Audi R8 V10 sound and look bad, and it also has something called a “unique rear wing with carbon fiber insert and apron ensure balanced aerodynamics front and rear,” and you want that sort of tech in your life right now, don’t you.

"There is nothing as liberating as life behind the wheel of an open-topped Jaguar and the new XKR-S Convertible takes the Jaguar GT experience to new heights," says Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Global Brand Director, who describes the XKR-S Convertible as a pinnacle of performance and glamor in motoring.

The XKR-S Convertible is available in six colors, including Polaris White and British Racing Green, a tribute to Jaguar's competition heritage. The acoustically treated roof opens and stows in just 18 seconds and has been proven at the car's maximum speed. It comes in black as standard with a further six optional colors available.

The car will debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, but availability has yet to be announced.
