After the ill-fated and Ford Mondeo-based X-Type model made everyone think that Jaguar will probably never be able to take a real jab at the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4, the British manufacturer is less than six months away from trying to prove all the naysayers wrong.
To be called XE, the upcoming entry-level sedan in the Jaguar model range is expected to be unveiled in production guise at the 2014 edition of the Paris Motor Show, trickling down the aluminium space frame technology of the big XJ into a much smaller segment by using an all-new scalable platform, called iQ[Al].

While a general idea of how it will look would come easy just by taking a peek at the larger XF and XJ, Jaguar decided to increase the anticipation for the XE by starting a teasing program, and the above image is the first one to show the entire car, albeit in a very X-ray fashion.

Apart from using an all-new aluminium architecture, the new Jaguar XE is also said to benefit from a new engine family that is based on a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, with both gasoline and diesel versions to comprise the lineup.

Previous rumors suggested that the new powerplant family – called Ingenium - could be offered with a variety of forced-induction setups as well, including a single turbocharger, twin-turbochargers and even a supercharger and a turbocharger at the same time, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

The XE is said to reach global showrooms in early 2015, but its aluminium modular platform will be used by pretty much every other Jaguar model in the upcoming years, so get ready to like it because it will even spawn the first ever Jaguar SUV/Crossover.
